President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations to President Egils Levits and all the people of Latvia on the 103rd anniversary of Latvia’s independence.
In his message of congratulations, the President emphasized the unity of Lithuania and Latvia, which has strong historical roots. “Our close bilateral dialogue, friendly people-to-people ties and mutual understanding have always helped us to pursue our common goals in the European Union, NATO and international organizations. Only by working together can we overcome difficult challenges such as threats to regional security and the preservation of democratic values,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda also stressed that the current geopolitical situation asked for special focus to be placed on security issues, which had been put at the top of the common agenda of the Baltic States in recent years.
“I very much appreciate that today, in the face of new difficult challenges such as the migration crisis caused by the undemocratic Belarusian regime, Latvia and Lithuania are reliable partners in the EU and allies in NATO,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda said that he strongly hoped that cooperation between Lithuania and Latvia would continue to be comprehensively strengthened and that economic and cultural ties would be further developed.
The President wished Latvian people every success and good health as well as long years of prosperity to Latvia.
