Tuesday, November 18, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations, on behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf, to President Andris Bērziņš of the Republic of Latvia on the occasion of national holiday - Independence Day.
"National flags will be flown not only in Latvia, but also across Lithuania to celebrate this joyful day of freedom and independence. It will reassert the brotherly bond between the Baltic nations as well as their determination to work together towards enhancing the democratic foundations of our statehood and ensuring the welfare and security of our people," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
According to the President, bilateral relations between Lithuania and Latvia, based on common historical memory, strong neighborly ties and mutual respect, promote the pursuit of shared objectives in economic, energy and security spheres.
"I firmly believe that cooperation between our countries in the Baltic Sea region, the European Union and NATO will contribute in a major way to making our states stronger and finding a common solution to the challenges faced by our region," the Lithuanian head of state wrote in her congratulatory letter.
President Grybauskaitė wished Latvian President Andris Bērziņš and the people of his country a beautiful celebration.
