President Gitanas Nausėda extended warmest congratulations to President Sergio Mattarella of Italy on Italy’s national day, Festa della Repubblica and wished all the Italian people continued health, consolidation and success.
The President once again expressed support to Italy in the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak and said he believed that EU solidarity would help to efficiently overcome the challenges and lead to a faster recovery of national economies and prevent the spread of the pandemic in the future.
“During our meeting in Italy this past November, we had the opportunity to discuss the close relationship that exists between our two countries across a wide range of areas. I am delighted to note that cooperation between Lithuania and Italy at both the bilateral and international levels is growing increasingly stronger. We see Italy as a close ally in the European Union and NATO. Italy’s contribution to enhancing the security of the Baltic States is critically important. I am very glad that Italian troops will join the NATO Air Policing mission in Lithuania again in September”, said the President in his letter.
According to the President, the fully fledged political and economic collaboration was complemented by a successful cultural and societal dialogue between Lithuania and Italy. President Gitanas Nausėda expressed hope that the two countries together would overcome the consequences of the world-halting pandemic and that many new cooperation opportunities would open to the Lithuanian and Italian people as they work together in science, culture, education, business, tourism, sports, and many other fields.
