President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou of the Hellenic Republic on Independence Day - the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence.
The President expressed his appreciation of the successful development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Greece and close people-to-people contacts. Next year will mark 100 years since Greece de jure recognized Lithuania's restored independence. Having fought very hard for freedom and independence, Greece supported the spirit of the Lithuanian nation by not recognizing the occupation and annexation of the Baltic States.
“As deeply committed allies in NATO and partners in the European Union, our two nations continue to work together to uphold fundamental human rights and freedoms as well as democratic principles,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda wished Greece long years of prosperity as well as continued good health and success to the people of Greece.
