President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations on behalf of the people of Lithuania and on his own behalf to President Emmanuel Macron and the French people on Bastille Day.
The President pointed out that this year marked a significant anniversary in bilateral relations between Lithuania and France: one hundred years ago, on May 11, France recognized de facto our restored independence. France has always been and continues to be a deeply committed partner and ally of Lithuania.
“We highly value your country's contribution to strengthening security in Lithuania and across the whole of the Baltic region. France has provided seven deployments to the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission and has also joined the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence. I am delighted that French troops, stationed in NATO’s enhanced forward presence in Lithuania two years ago, will join the mission once again,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined that the COVID-19 pandemic that gripped the world this year demonstrated that we will overcome the emerging challenges and their consequences only if we stand united together. It is important for Europe to recover from the pandemic as quickly as possible so that together we can continue working for the good of our people.
The President wished France and the French people continued good health, unity and prosperity.
