Tuesday, August 20, Tallinn – During his working visit to Tallinn, President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated Estonian leaders and people on the Day of Restoration of Independence.
In his speech, the President emphasized the special bond between Lithuania and Estonia, based on common history and love of freedom and forged in the spirit of freedom fights and deep commitment to national wellbeing.
“We gathered in huge crowds in the streets of our largest cities to restore historical justice and our human dignity that was severely violated. We asserted our moral superiority and did not fear an enemy who was much stronger than us. And when the time came, we built strong barricades – but there was even more strength in our songs and joined hands. We wanted freedom for our countries, and we left no doubt – like in the Baltic Way – that our unity could not be broken,” the President said and wished the Estonian people unity, prosperity and unwavering determination to create and promote their country.
At a reception in Kadriorg, President Gitanas Nausėda and President Kersti Kaljulaid presented the organizers of the Baltic Way with symbolic stones of remembrance from the barricades on Toompea.
