President Gitanas Nausėda extended sincere congratulations on behalf of the Lithuanian people to President Zoran Milanović and all the people of Croatia on the 30th anniversary of the Statehood Day.
“These six months have been very challenging to Croatia as it presided over the Council of the European Union in global pandemic conditions. Despite difficult circumstances, you have attained the established goals and priorities, and key issues on the EU agenda were not put off to a later date. I am very glad that the EU-Western Balkans Summit went ahead with a strong demonstration of support for the region’s European perspective. Taking into account the strategic importance of EU neighborhood, both in the South and in the East, we must add a new strategic impetus and ambition to the Eastern Partnership policy and seek to deliver them at the EU-Eastern Partnership Summit scheduled for this coming June”, said the President in the letter.
The President shared delight over a successful political and economic relationship between Lithuania and Croatia and expressed hope that both countries would further develop their ties working together in EU twinning projects across the Western Balkan countries and consolidating cooperation in energy security.
The President also expressed appreciation for Croatia’s contribution to the security of Lithuania and the whole Baltic region and said that Lithuania saw the deployment of Croatian troops to the NATO Forward Presence battlegroup in Lithuania as a sign of solidarity and genuine friendship.
The President wished Croatia and its people continued health, unity, success, and prosperity.
