President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations to King Philippe of the Belgians and the people of his country on national day.
“Our people are closely connected by deep and long-standing bonds of friendship, shared respect to history and fundamental democratic values. Belgium recognized Lithuania’s independence in 1922 and did not recognize its subsequent occupation. After the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, Belgium actively supported its integration into the European Union and NATO. I am delighted to point out that next year we will mark the 30th anniversary of our reestablished diplomatic relations. Today, Lithuania sees Belgium as a committed partner and ally in effectively addressing urgent political, economic and security issues,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined that Lithuania highly valued Belgium’s contribution of many years to ensuring the security of the Baltic region and strengthening the policy of deterrence. Belgium has repeatedly sent deployments to the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission and has joined NATO’s enhanced forward presence battle group in Lithuania.
The President wished the people of the Kingdom of Belgium good health, success and prosperity.
