On Saturday, President Gitanas Nausėda sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, calling for a more coordinated response to the current COVID-19 outbreak in Europe.
“It is evident that there is a need for coordinated approach on the EU level to ensure proper movement of goods and people within the EU,” the President wrote in his letter. He pointed out that more and more member states are introducing border control or even banning the entry of other EU nationals into their countries.
The President urged to use the formats of ministers of health and ministers of interior that were agreed at the European Council’s video conference to find solutions to ensure that people crossing other EU member states could come back home.
