The President and the Prime Minister discussed measures to stop the spread of COVID-19


President Gitanas Nausėda discussed the spread of corona virus (COVID-19) and the measures aimed to prevent the spread during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on Friday.

The President urged the Prime Minister to ensure adequate supply of personal protective equipment to medical staff, help Lithuanian citizens to return home and facilitate safe transit of foreign nationals through the territory of Lithuania. The President and the Prime Minister also discussed economic stimulus plan as well as support to the most vulnerable groups of people.

According to the President, despite quarantine we must grant Lithuanian citizens the opportunity to return home safely using road, sea and air transport and the EU citizens must be allowed to go back to their home countries through Lithuania provided that they take all the necessary safety precautions.

The President also emphasized that smooth cooperation among public institutions and exchange of information among the central government and local authorities was highly important at the moment.
