Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very pleased to be here today for the opening of the Continental Automotive Plant. Many people have worked on this project and dedicated their time for it to become a reality – I thank them sincerely.
It is a truly historic moment – the emergence of the largest automotive plant in the history of our country. More than 95 million euros will be invested here, on the outskirts of Kaunas. There will also be new well-paid jobs for 1000 high skilled workers. It means a major boost for the local economy as well as for the general welfare of our people.
This investment comes to Lithuania at a critical time for the whole automotive industry. New trends, such as automated driving, electrification and connectivity, add to the demand for vehicle electronics and extra safety measures. The Continental plant will help Lithuania to dive deeper into the midst of the new industrial revolution.
I am particularly delighted by the fact that Lithuania now emerges on the map for other potential foreign investors. As a modern industrial region with an excellent infrastructure and engineering readiness, Kaunas is the ideal location for manufacturing automotive state-of-the-art electronics. By choosing to take root here, Continental, a big and well-established market player, shows the way for other manufacturers. I am certain that the ones who act swiftly and resolutely will not be disappointed.
Lithuania develops at a very high pace and always sets the highest standards for itself. Our country also boasts a stable political environment, which is crucial for any company’s sustainable growth. It is of particular joy for us to have a big German company that trusts our ability to deliver a safe and promising business environment.
I am certain that Continental will find itself at home here. Our partnership makes both sides stronger and more competitive. Let this journey into the future be a truly promising for everybody.
