President presented letters of credence to Lithuania's new ambassador to Georgia


Thursday, April 29, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Jonas Paslauskas as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Georgia.

The President underlined that the Ambassador had a task to continue successfully the ongoing cooperation projects and to look for new, mutually-beneficial initiatives. The President expressed belief that the long experience of the Ambassador in the diplomatic service would enable him to efficiently develop further the relations between Lithuania and Georgia and strengthen their bilateral cooperation.

The 52-year-old Ambassador has been working for the Lithuanian diplomatic service since its re-establishment. In 1991-1993, J. Paslauskas headed the Protocol Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Since 1993, he has worked at Lithuania's embassies in the U.S. and Canada for six years. In 1999-2005, Jonas Paslauskas served as Lithuania's Ambassador to Belarus. In 2005-2006, back to Lithuania, he headed the Americas, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department of the MAF. Before his appointment to Tbilisi, the Ambassador has served as Lithuania's General Consul in New York. Jonas Paslauskas is the third ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia.
