On July 7, President Gitanas Nausėda of Lithuania and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine opened the Ukraine Reform Conference, held in Vilnius.
President Nausėda stressed that Lithuania would always support the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine and was prepared to share the best practice.
“We will always support Ukraine on its path to the European Union and NATO. We are aware of the fact that Ukraine is facing serious challenges, and we are prepared to share our experience,” the President said.
President Nausėda welcomed the attention and support of the international community for the reforms in Ukraine and highlighted the fact that Ukraine has a key role in ensuring economic development and stability in the region.
“I urge the colleagues in the European Union to demonstrate strong support for the associated countries – Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova – and open up a path for their European integration. We may begin with Ukraine and other associated countries’ integration into the internal market EU. Let us not forget that the integration demands efforts from both sides – we must propose clear prospects and Ukrainians have to implement the reforms in an effective way,” the President said.
President Nausėda underscored that we had to see clear progress and breakthrough in the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. According to the President of Lithuania, Ukrainians have to focus on the effective implementation of the reform package: fight against corruption, judiciary reform, and establishment of save and stable climate for investments.
“The welfare of Ukrainian people largely depends on the progress of reforms. The welfare may be ensured only after reaching smooth functioning of the market economy, public resilience, rule of law and curbing corruption. I am confident that Ukrainians are capable of implementing all the necessary reforms and reaching these goals,” the President said at the conference.
The Ukraine Reform Conference is taking place on July 7–8 in Vilnius. Previously held in London, Copenhagen, and Toronto, this conference gathers international community to discuss the reform process in Ukraine. This is a very important event in the context of Ukrainian reforms that makes national European integration plans by 2030.
