On behalf of the Lithuanian people and on his own behalf, President Gitanas Nausėda extends congratulations to all people of Russia on June 12, Russia Day.
“This year, we mark the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Three decades ago, Lithuanians in Vilnius and Russians in Moscow stood against tanks - defending freedom. The aspirations for democratic values and sovereignty predetermined the Act of 11 March 1990 in Lithuania and the Declaration of 12 June 1990 in Russia. We felt the support of the Russian democratic forces after the bloodshed night of January 13. Today we continue to believe that Russia’s civil society will stand strong in defending human rights and freedoms. We wish you fortitude!” the President said.
On 12 June 1990, the first Congress of People’s Deputies of Russia adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR).
