Monday, August 24, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent congratulations to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko on the Independence Day.
"Lithuania and Ukraine made their first steps together on the road to independence after the fall of the Iron Curtain," the President writes in the congratulatory letter, underlining that now that Lithuania and Ukraine are free and independent, they must work together towards other goals: the well-being and prosperity of their citizens.
The President of Lithuania expresses opinion that in times of economic slowdown, cooperation among countries becomes exceptionally important.
"I firmly believe that the potential for cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine is further increased by their common aspiration to live in Europe built on the values of freedom, democracy and solidarity," President Grybauskaitė writes in the letter.
The President wished her Ukrainian counterpart strength and endurance on the course of creating a European Ukraine.
