On Sunday, President Gitanas Nausėda began his one-day visit to Poland.

At the invitation of President Andrzej Duda of Poland, President Nausėda arrived in Krakow and, on Sunday morning, visited the Polish Special Operations Component Command (POLSOCOM). The Presidents of Lithuania and Poland discussed security situation in the region and new challenges for regional stability: increasing flow of illegal migrants, unpredictable behavior of the Belarus regime, and Russia’s aggressive policy towards neighboring countries.

“Cooperation between Lithuania and Poland is hundreds and hundreds of years long. We are natural allies in the area of security and defense. Security in the region can be ensured only in a joint effort,” the President of Lithuania said. NATO Summit outcomes, response to military exercise ZAPAD 2021, energy and cyber security were also discussed at the meeting.

Belarus related matters were in the focus. The President of Lithuania stressed the necessity to address the security matters of the EU’s Eastern border without delay and effectively curb the flows of illegal migrants from Belarus. “We will not allow the Belarus regime to use migrants as political weapon,” Gitanas Nausėda said.

The Presidents of Lithuania and Poland discussed relations with the Eastern partnership countries, focusing on Ukraine’s aspiration of eurointegration. They have agreed to support Ukrainians on this path and propose them a clear European prospect.

Presidents Gitanas Nausėda and Andrzej Duda have agreed to participate at the Lithuanian Security Conference 2021 in October.
