Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s ambassador to Canada

Tuesday, July 17, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Vytautas Žalys, Lithuanian ambassador to Canada.

The President underlined that Canada was Lithuania's significant partner on the international scene and an ally in NATO. It was therefore important to strengthen their cooperation on collective defense, air policing and all other issues of importance to the Alliance and Lithuania. The Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence has just been officially established, and Canada's participation in its work would not only contribute to strengthening bilateral relations, but would also serve in the interest of the entire Alliance, the President said.

According to the President, Lithuania values Canada's support on nuclear energy issues to have the highest nuclear safety and security standards applied in respect of all nuclear power stations which are currently built or planned for construction.

Since 1990 Vytautas Žalys has served in various departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He worked in Lithuanian diplomatic representations in the United States and Kaliningrad.
