Tuesday, August 24, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine on Independence Day.
In her letter of congratulations, the President wished Independent Ukraine to serve its people as a guarantor of security, well-being and freedom, and to stand as reliable and open partner for other nations.
"For two decades now our two countries have been committed to cooperating and strengthening their statehood. Today Lithuania and Ukraine are strong partners bound by common interests and a shared vision of their future within a united European Union. It makes me proud and delighted. I am convinced that joint work and an open dialogue, even on the most sensitive issues, constitute the main precondition for our successful cooperation," the President said in the letter.
Dalia Grybauskaitė further said that she was looking forward to meeting Viktor Yanukovych at the forthcoming session of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine to be held in Vilnius at the beginning of October: "I am confident that we will discuss openly and sincerely our future cooperation priorities, set down new objectives, and address all questions of concern."
