Saturday, May 3, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations, both personally and on behalf of the Lithuanian people, to President Bronisław Komorowski of Poland on the occasion of national holiday - Constitution Day.
According to the Lithuanian head of state, the Constitution of the Republic of the Two Nations, enacted on 3 May 1791, was an exclusive leap of political and constitutional thought in the history of 18th-century Europe. This document was a modern step by two nations aimed to advance the development of human rights and social progress.
"Symbolically, this year also marks the 220th anniversary of the Kościuszko Uprising that defended the ideals of the Constitution of May 3, 1791. Both anniversaries remind us of the common determination of our nations to remain part of European culture and maintain the tradition of statehood based on the values of freedom, equality and democracy. I strongly believe that these significant dates will inspire us to further strengthen the Lithuania-Poland partnership which is important to us and to the whole of Europe," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
President Grybauskaitė sent her best wishes for the happiness and every success of the Polish President as well as for the general good and prosperity of Poland and its people.
