Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated the new NATO Secretary General


Wednesday, October 1, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to Jens Stoltenberg on assuming the office of NATO Secretary General.

"Security issues have never been as critical as they are right now. Fully recognizing this, the people of Lithuania see NATO as the main guarantor for safeguarding, today and tomorrow, the security of our country and the whole region," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

The President underlined that the decisions made at the Wales Summit on the Readiness Action Plan had to be implemented timely and consistently, adding that the package of measures provided in the plan would further reinforce Lithuania's security.

Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the new NATO Secretary General continued strength, wisdom and resolve in discharging the important duties of his position, and invited him to visit Lithuania.

She also thanked the former Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, for his consistent and determined commitment to fully ensure the security of Lithuania. For his merits to Lithuania, Anders Fogh Rasmussen was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great, one of the highest state decorations.
