Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated President of Turkey on national holiday

Thursday, October 29, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Abdullah Gül on the 86th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that in the eighty six years of its existence, the Republic of Turkey had maintained close relations with many European states and that those ties between Turkey and Europe were being constantly perfected and strengthened.

"Even though Lithuania and Turkey are located in different parts of Europe, cooperation between our two countries is steadily growing. Each year, more and more holiday makers from Lithuania travel out to Turkey. In 2010 Istanbul will take over the title of the European Capital of Culture from Vilnius. The expanding transport network has made traveling between the Baltic and Black Seas easy and quick. All of this encourages economic and cultural cooperation and better mutual understanding. Our countries are emerging as important actors in promoting closer interaction between Europe's North and South, while Turkey also serves as a connecting link between Europe and Asia," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
