"United by a vision of Europe that is internally strong and externally resolute, our two countries are actively cooperating in the European Union and NATO. The Czech Republic was among the first new member states which took on, unwaveringly and at the same time successfully, the Presidency of the European Union. Our cooperation in this period showed that Lithuania and the Czech Republic held similar interests," President Grybauskaitė wrote in her message of congratulations.
The President underlined that it was during the Czech presidency that the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative was approved which opened a new stage of relations with Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan and created new opportunities for strengthening democratic and market reforms in those countries.
"I am delighted that Lithuania and the Czech Republic enjoy a close relationship like never before - a relationship that is made even stronger by regular high-level contacts and also by concrete and mutually beneficial projects between the business and art communities of our two countries. I hope that such projects will continue to grow in number and scope," President Grybauskaitė wrote in the letter.
