Wednesday, February 15, Vilnius - On the eve of February 16, the Day of Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania, President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of congratulation from Pope Benedict XVI, President of the United States Barack Obama, King of Spain Juan Carlos, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, King Albert II of Belgium, President of France Nicolas Sarkozy, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, President of Germany Christian Wulff, President of Portugal Anibal Cavaco Silva, President of the Swiss Confederation Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of India Pratibha Patil, Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
On the occasion of Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania congratulations are also extended by the leaders of Ireland, Greece, Montenegro, Turkey, Pakistan, Argentina, and Peru.
"I extend warm greetings to Your Excellency and all the people of Lithuania as you celebrate the happy occasion of your Independence Day. Invoking the blessings of Almighty God upon the Republic, I pray that the efforts of those who promote peace and work for the common good may bear fruit," Pope Benedict XVI writes in his letter of congratulations to the President.
The US President writes in his congratulatory letter that Lithuania consistently demonstrates its enduring commitment to the shared values, strengthening the bonds between the two countries.
"On behalf of all Americans, I extend my best wishes to you and all the people of Lithuania as you commemorate the 94th Anniversary of Lithuania's Declaration of Independence on February 16. Lithuania is a steadfast NATO ally and close friend of the United States. We appreciate the courage and leadership your country has shown on many issues of mutual importance," President Barack Obama underlines.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy stresses that his country aims at maintaining friendship and cooperation as they serve to bring the two nations closer.
The French leader writes that he is delighted at the strategic partnership between France and Lithuania, which has been endorsed by political declaration, as it enables strengthening the ties between the countries and promoting the bilateral relations in the fields of economy and culture.
Wishes for success, peace and wellbeing have been extended to the people of Lithuania by other world leaders as well.
