On Sunday, President Gitanas Nausėda held telephone conversations with Presidents of neighboring EU countries to ensure the smoothest possible return of Lithuanian and other EU citizens to their home countries in the face of the outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19). In the conversation with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, the President pointed out the complicated situation at the German-Polish border where despite previous agreements returning Lithuanian citizens encountered obstacles and could not exercise their right of free movement in recent days.

The President calls on EU institutions for a more coordinated response to COVID-19


On Saturday, President Gitanas Nausėda sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, calling for a more coordinated response to the current COVID-19 outbreak in Europe. “It is evident that there is a need for coordinated approach on the EU level to ensure proper movement of goods and people within the EU,” the President wrote in his letter. He pointed out that more and more member states are introducing border control or even banning the entry of other EU nationals into their countries.
