The President presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s ambassador to Greece

Tuesday, August 7, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Alfonsas Eidintas, Lithuanian ambassador to Greece.

 

Lithuania, Ireland and Greece are partners in the Trio Presidency of the EU Council. Ireland will take the helm of the EU Presidency in January 2013. After half a year, the Presidency will be taken over by Lithuania and at the beginning of 2014 - by Greece.

 

According to the President, the three countries will have a particular responsibility for ensuring smooth presidency, continuity of works and implementation of decisions. Effective and expeditious coordination of actions both in Brussels and in the capital cities of these countries will be among other tasks on their agenda, the President said.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Greece in January 1992.

 

Alfonsas Eidintas in the course of his diplomatic career served as Lithuania's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Norway, Israel, Cyprus, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Nigeria. The Lithuanian diplomat also worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was a lecturer at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science.

 

Alfonsas Eidintas is the author of seven historical studies, six monographs and several literary works.
