Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 16, the Office of the President will host a meeting of Heads of State of the Baltic States. Taking part in the meeting will be President Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania, President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia, and President Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia. The three presidents will discuss prospects for creating a common Baltic and Nordic energy market. According to President Grybauskaitė, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have to work actively and make committed efforts to build a common Nordic and Baltic energy market. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated the newly elected President of the Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard and wished her the best of success in discharging the important and responsible duties of the position. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė who attended the European Council meeting in Brussels pointed out that the EU Member States would not ignore the principle of fairness in their fight against consequences of climate change. The President of Lithuania welcomes the fact that the European Council has taken into consideration Lithuania’s request to stipulate that in the framework of the EU’s commitment to contribute financially to compensations to third countries for the reduction of pollution, the EU Member States will pay according to their individual financial capacities. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė spoke out at the European Council meeting in Brussels for a maximally efficient European Union’s economic revival plan backed by structural reforms and supportive of interests of each Member State for the period until 2020. The influential French political, business and financial daily La Tribune has listed President Dalia Grybauskaitė among top ten EU leaders. “Only close cooperation between Nordic and Baltic states will lead to successful development of the Baltic region,” says President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on a working visit to Brussels. Before the European Council meeting, an informal meting of heads of Nordic and Baltic states and governments (NB6) took place on the initiative of President Dalia Grybauskaitė. Next Wednesday, December 16, the Office of the President will host a meeting of Presidents of the Baltic States and Poland. The traditional meeting of heads of the Baltic States will be attended by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, and President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves. President of Poland Lech Kaczynski was also invited to the meeting. In the meeting with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania would ask the European Union to envisage funds in its new financial perspective for the post-closure maintenance of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and for the construction of electricity connections with Western Europe. |
