President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė received the President of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, who came to Vilnius on an official visit. This is the first official visit by President Danilo Türk to Lithuania. This March 11, Lithuania will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Restoration of Independence. Latvia’s President Valdis Zatlers, Estonia’s President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Poland’s President Lech Kaczyński, Finland’s President Tarja Halonen, and Slovenia’s President Danilo Türk plan to visit Vilnius on this occasion. The commemorative events are expected to be attended by the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Pamela Quanrud, Sweden’s Minister for European Union Affairs Birgitta Ohlsson, Russia’s Minister of Transport Igor Levitin, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Petro Poroshenko, former President of Estonia Arnold Rüütel, and other guests from foreign states. The commemoration of the Anniversary of Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence will also be joined in by heads of parliaments of Armenia, Bulgaria, Poland, Georgia, Czech Republic, Iceland, United Kingdom, Moldova, Slovenia, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, and the United States of America. President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Georgi Parvanov on Bulgaria's national holiday - Liberation Day. President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Audra Plepytė-Jara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Spain. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, the appointment of Lithuania’s new ambassador to Spain will open fresh opportunities for the two countries to cooperate even closer in addressing EU agenda issues and will further promote bilateral contacts in the fields of economy, culture and science. President Dalia Grybauskaitė sent condolences to President Michelle Bachelet of Chile over the devastating earthquake that killed hundreds of people. President Dalia Grybauskaitė signed a decree appointing Raimondas Šukys as Minister of Health Care of Lithuania. The Decree enters into force on the date of signature. President Dalia Grybauskaitė received Raimondas Šukys, candidate for health minister, to discuss urgent health care issues and the continuity of health care reform. Mr. Šukys presented his position on health care and principles for dealing with the problems in this sector. President Dalia Grybauskaitė is currently on a working visit to Kyiv where she is attending the inauguration of Viktor Yanukovych as Ukraine’s new president. “Lithuania and Ukraine are connected by close and long-standing historical, cultural and political bonds. I am therefore confident that the strategic dialogue between Lithuania and Ukraine, based on shared interests and values, will be consistently strengthened and deepened under the leadership of President Viktor Yanukovych,” President Grybauskaitė said. |
