Public Events at the Presidential PalaceFamily afternoon at the Presidential PalaceSunday, January 24, Vilnius - A family afternoon was held at the Column Hall of the Presidential Palace.
Janina Gudzinevičiūtė and Irmantas Jankaitis from the Vilnius Lėlė Puppet Theater performed "The Tale of the Turtle" by Žanis Griva. The children's ensemble Reketukas (leader Irena Strazdienė) from the Vilnius Techers' Community Center, which sings and dances Lithuanian folkfore, mostly from the ethnic regions of Dzūkija and Aukštaitija, staged a special concert. The group plays traditional and folk instruments: kanklės (plucked string instrument), concertina, lumzdelis (wind instrument), violin, and others. Its repertoire includes children's, military and calendar songs as well as sutartinės (Lithuanian polyphonic songs).
Before and after the concert, children and their parents could enjoy paintings by young students from the Justinas Vienožinskis Art School. They also received information about non-formal education. Such out-of-school programmes were presented by the Children's Literature Center of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library. The Lithuanian National Museum offered various extra-curriculum projects for students from general schools and non-formal educational establishments and for their families.
