VisitsPresident of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in the Baltic Sea Action Summit convened on the initiative of the President of Finland in Helsinki, where heads of states and governments as well as representatives of business and non-governmental organizations from countries around the Baltic Sea gathered to discuss possible solutions to Baltic Sea environmental problems. On a two-day working visit to Brussels, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the European Council meeting and chaired the Nordic-Baltic (NB6) meeting. The informal meting of heads of Nordic and Baltic states and governments (NB6) took place before the European Council meeting, on the initiative of President Dalia Grybauskaitė. President Dalia Grybauskaitė went on a working visit to Ukraine to attend a session of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine, and to meet with Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko. The two presidents discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, culture and education, as well as electricity supply options from Ukraine to Lithuania. On a two-day working visit to Belgium, President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with His Majesty Albert II, King of the Belgians, and with Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy for a working conversation. President Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in an international conference "Transatlantic Agenda 2010 - A Baltic Vision" in Riga. The conference discussed international security and collective defence, NATO's new strategic concept, the contribution of the Baltic States to NATO, and future perspectives. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė left for a working visit to Finland and Estonia. In Helsinki, President Grybauskaitė met with Finland's President Tarja Halonen, Speaker of Parliament Sauli Niinistö, and Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. "Finland is a very important partner of Lithuania in strengthening cooperation with Nordic countries and Finnish experience in the field of energy and innovation is also very useful to Lithuania," the President of Lithuania said. During her working visit to France, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and President of the Republic of France Nicolas Sarkozy signed a strategic partnership agreement which is the first document of this kind in the history of the two countries. While on a working visit to Poland, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Poland's President Lech Kaczyński in Warsaw to discuss opportunities for strategic cooperation between Lithuania and Poland. While on a two-day working visit to Brussels, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso to discuss issues of importance for Lithuania and the upcoming meetings of the Council of the European Union on economic issues and climate change scheduled this coming autumn. |
