On the first day of her visit, President Dalia Grybauskaitė, together with Polish President-elect Bronisław Komorowski and prominent Polish state and public figures, took part in the opening of the official events to mark the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė went to Brussels for a one-day working visit, to attend the European Council Summit. President Dalia Grybauskaitė and other European leaders discussed major EU policy issues – the EU’s Strategy 2020 and economic coordination and financial supervision measures to be taken in Europe to stabilize its economy and finances. Officially visiting the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg. President Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined in the meeting that Lithuania and Luxembourg had become good friends and reliable partners over the past two decades. President Dalia Grybauskaitė, accompanied by the Chief of Defense of Lithuania, Major General Arvydas Pocius, visited Lithuanian troops in Afghanistan's Ghor and Kandahar provinces, and in Kabul. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participated, for the first time, in the working session "Implementing the Europe 2020 Strategy: Key Next Steps" organised by the World Economic Forum, organiser of the Davos Forum. The President and other European leaders discussed measures to be taken to promote economic recovery and ensure sustainable growth in the EU. President Dalia Grybauskaitė started her two-day official visit to Ireland by meeting with representatives of local émigré communities and organizations. At the present moment the Lithuanian Association in Ireland unites nearly 90 000 members. Before the European Council meeting, the President met with the heads of the Baltic and Nordic states and governments (NB6). They discussed the main issues on the agenda of the European Council meeting and the prospects for a long-term economic development of the EU. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participates in the Baltic Sea Action Summit convened on the initiative of the President of Finland in Helsinki, where heads of states and governments as well as representatives of business and non-governmental organisations from countries around the Baltic Sea have gathered to discuss possible solutions to Baltic Sea environmental problems. On a two-day working visit to Brussels, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the European Council meeting and chaired the Nordic-Baltic (NB6) meeting. The informal meting of heads of Nordic and Baltic states and governments (NB6) took place before the European Council meeting, on the initiative of President Dalia Grybauskaitė. President Dalia Grybauskaitė went on a working visit to Ukraine to attend a session of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine, and to meet with Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko. The two presidents discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, culture and education, as well as electricity supply options from Ukraine to Lithuania. A special focus was made on Ukraine’s relationship with the European Union, the Eastern Partnership Program and European integration. |
