Message of congratulations to President Danilo Türk of the Republic of Slovenia on Statehood Day

Dear Mr. President,

I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on the occasion of Slovenia's national holiday - Statehood Day. I wish your country and its people, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Slovenian independence, well-being and prosperity as well as fruitful cooperation and new initiatives for our both nations across many areas.

Slovenia and Lithuania have traversed a similar path from dramatic fights for independence to restoration of statehood to integration into the European Union and NATO. Slovenia was among the first nations of the world to have recognized Lithuania's independence reestablished in 1990. Therefore, I am greatly pleased that our countries continue the two decades long tradition of mutual support and collaboration on issues of topical importance for both Lithuania and Slovenia as well as for Europe as a whole. I strongly hope that this tradition will expand and grow stronger.

May I again congratulate you on the twentieth anniversary of Slovenian independence.
